United States Land Port of Entry, Champlain
An iconic and highly functioning new gateway to the US, the port is located at one of the northern border’s busiest crossings. Facing north by necessity with the façade in perpetual shadow, the new building design incorporates a wide ribbon channel glass, lit from behind by a hidden skylight. The result is a subtle glow by day, and by night a beacon announcing arrival at this important threshold. Design criteria such as clear site lines and logistical adjacencies are critical as well as an ordered operational flow.
